What is Zeolite?

Zeolites are a class of natural volcanic minerals, which were created millions of years ago when the Earth was volatile and volcanos everywhere were erupting. Molten lava and thick ash flowed into seawaters, causing a chemical reaction that allowed zeolites to form. Encased in hardened lava, mining is the only way to free them.

Why is Zeolite so Unique?

Zeolite has the rare distinction of being one of the few negatively-charged minerals found in nature. This mineral (specifically clinoptilolite-zeolite) is pitted with endless cavities, making it highly absorbent. These large vacant spaces, or “cages,” are negatively charged, allowing for large, positively charged ions to be absorbed deep within the zeolite cages. Since there is no condition harsh enough in the human body to breakdown the strong structure of zeolite, toxins become locked in and cannot escape. This means zeolite is a very gentle, natural detox, and there is little-to-no Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction (aka healing crisis) when detoxing with this powerful mineral.

Zeolite’s unique ability to remove dangerous toxins is well documented. It was first used after the Three Mile Island disaster to soak up radioactive pollution from the ground. Soon after this, it was also used by the Russian government to absorb radioactive materials, and other harmful toxins, from victims of the Chernobyl disaster. For centuries, the powdered forms of clinoptilolite-zeolite have been used as traditional remedies throughout Asia to promote overall health and well-being.

Our Zeolite

ZEO Health Ltd. is the first zeolite health supplement manufacturer in the United States and the largest in the world. We source our Zeolite from one of the only places in the world that mines specifically for human consumption. Our products are manufactured in an FDA licensed and certified GMP pharmaceutical facility. We continually verify the safety of our products with independent lab tests, toxicology reports, and studies, which allow us to maintain a high level of quality control.

How to Recognize a Quality Zeolite Supplement

The Cleaning Process of ZEO Health’s Zeolite

We start with the cleanest and purest zeolite on Earth, and mine specifically for human consumption. Our zeolite is then intensely washed and prepared to ensure a high level of cation capacity and clean cages. The zeolite is then put through rigorous processing and quality control tests to ensure that quality and safety is always maintained for human consumption. It is at this point that it is thoroughly dried and then MICRONIZED into a powder. Our zeolite has a wide ranging micron size, which allows for full body detox. Among some of the numerous metals zeolite has demonstrated in studies to absorb include lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, barium and other toxic chemicals.

Milled vs. Micronized Zeolite

“Commercial grade zeolite” is zeolite that has very low purity and many toxins already filling up its cages (meaning a low cation exchange) and is often used in water/air filtration, in cat litter, for pool filtration, as soil treatment, in laundry detergent, for radioactive cleanup, or as concrete filler. It should never be used in health supplements, but, unfortunately, it is used more often than not. The easiest way to identify a commercial grade zeolite is by how it is processed. In order for zeolite to be used in any application it has to go through particle reduction after mining. There are two forms of this: milling (resulting in commercial grade) and micronization (resulting in zeolite for human consumption).

All zeolite is milled once it is mined out of the ground. This enables the mine to transport the product easily and efficiently. The milling process is inexpensive, doesn’t require much expertise, and delivers a product the suits most commercial standards.

Particle reduction through milling does not yield a small particle size. Micronization, on the other hand, can produce significantly smaller zeolite particles. Without micronization, zeolite would not be small enough to leave the digestive system and travel through the bloodstream. The micronization process also makes zeolite more efficient in attracting toxins by exposing more of its surface area, while keeping the vital cage-like structure intact. In other words, micronization allows zeolite to detox the body more efficiently. Zeolite must be cleaned and micronized to be considered safe and effective for consumption (or food grade).

When supplement companies are faced with the choice of using a commercial grade zeolite or spending the extra money for a quality controlled, cleaned, and micronized zeolite, many manufacturers choose to use the cheaper, less effective, unclean commercial grade zeolite. Food grade zeolite can cost more than double the price of commercial grade zeolite to produce, but the results are a safe and effective product. All of ZEO Health’s products contain clean, micronized zeolite and are produced under the strictest quality controls. ZEO Health employs the highest standards for human consumption to ensure the utmost quality and effective zeolite supplements possible.

CEC Rating and Micron Size

The CEC rating measures the ability of the zeolite to absorb toxins and heavy metals. Zeolites with higher ratings have better absorption capabilities.

ZEO Health LTD. CEC rating = 170 - 190 meq / 100 grams
Micron size for All Products*=0-40
*Except Esdifan, which uses 0-150 microns to help heal the gut more effectively.
